What are the SIX duties for Barristers?
1) Advocate for clients in court- they present the client’s case for them
2) Barristers have rights of audience in every court in England and Wales
3)Provide opinions on whether a case should go to court, whether the case has any merit and which action could be taken
4) Prosecution barristers will be instructed by the CPS and work with the police and CPS to ensure that there is enough evidence to bring the case
5) Defence barristers will advise on the strength of the prosecution’s evidence, it is then for the defendant to decide whether to plead guilty or not guilty
6)After a conviction, the barrister can advise on the possibility of an appeal
What is the King’s Counsel?
A TITLE:
-Considered to be more experienced and will usually take on more complicated or high-profile cases
-10% of Bar= KCs
What is the King’s Counsel reffered to as?

What are the requirements to be a KC?
-Need 10 years as a barrister OR solicitor with an advocacy qualification
