A

Because in the 19th century, the middle class began to grow in influence due to manufacturing
and the then tories, who’s incomes were based on rents and agriculture
Resisted new political structures and wished to conserve the dominance of the upper class.

What is the new right

A

An ideology which rose in effect during the 80s globally. Margaret Thatchers take on this was Thatcherism and it consisted of neoliberal conservative policies. free market capitalism, low taxes and a small but effective state, acting as a safety net for those in need.
- Margaret Thatcher’s stance on removing milk from children 7-11 in 1971 while she was secretary of state for education.
- Theresa may pushing to remove free school lunches children under 7 during her office could be likened to this.
- 1984 Trade Union Act which made sure that a union needed a majority in a ballot of members in support of a strike to be allowed to do so. Margaret Thatcher gradually inhibiting trade union power.
