what are urban and rural places?
urban: Places with clusters of over 1000 people. areas characterized by a dense concentration of people, buildings, and infrastructure, typically including towns, cities, and suburbs.
rural: places with clusters of under 1000.a region located outside cities and towns, typically characterized by open spaces, farmland, and a lower population density compared to urban areas.
what are primary and secondary industries?
primary: industries involving the extraction of raw materials. Mining, drilling, fishing and farming (rural areas)
Secondary: takes raw materials and changes them from one form to another. manufacturing or production (urban areas)
what are tertiary and quaternary industries?
- Tertiary industries – nothing tangible. industries that provide a service of some kind. Teaching, bank, retail
- Quaternary industries – industries involved in intellectual services such as research, information and development.
population density defintion?
the measurement of population per unit area
describe the process of urbanisation

- involves the movement of people from rural to urban areas or a large influx of migrants into urban areas, at a greater rate than into rural areas
- increase in urban growth is usually accompanied by increase in level of urbanisation
- Urban populations tend to be significantly higher in ore developed regions and high-income regions, as they are benefited from industrialisation.
- The cost goes down the further you move away from the CBD, but less services and transport
