Ultrasound Stuff Flashcards
(11 cards)
BART
Blue colors move away from probe
Red colors move towards the probe
POCUS (Point of Care Ultrasound) vs formal ultra sound
Immediate and increased hands on time w/ patient
Stay within your department and not have to leave
Decrease radiation exposure for patient
Linear Ultrasound array
High frequency array used for superficial structures
-high resolution, swallow penetration
Phased ultrasound array
Low frequency array that is used for deep structures
-low resolution, deeper penetration
Curvilinear ultrasound array
Same as phased array but used primarily for abdominal imaging
Rocking
Move the probe back and forth along its long axis while it is stationary
Fanning
Move the probe along its short axis while keeping the probe stationary
Sliding
Keeps probe perpendicular to structure and slide it around the structure
Types of artifacts in ultra sound
Mirror image: objects filled with air can appear isoecoeic to solid structures
Reflection: (acoustic shadowing): reflection of sound waves off solid foreign bodies cause hypoechoic areas to form.
Reverb: vibrating sound waves at an odd angle can cause the appearance that foreign bodies are present even though they aren’t
Refraction: refraction of light from the probe causes false anechoic foreign bodies to form on US
Gas Scatter: gas prescience causes skewed imaging and looks like nothing
Gain
Measure strength of US signal. Adjusts brightness of the US
Depth
Changes displayed field
Increasing = reduces image resolution and zooms in
Decreasing = Increases image resolution and zooms out
