Actor
someone/ something with the power to bring about change
Stakeholders
Impacted by an issue but not directly involved and doesn’t have any power to bring about change e.g. everyone is a stakeholder of climate change

Peace treaty in western Germany-
Conclusion of the thirty years war, holy roman empire of catholic vs protestant
Removed power from churches-> gave it to sovereign secular states with clear territorial boundaries
Montevideo Convention definition of states
(1933) Defined territory (land, sea, air), permanent population, effective government, ability to enter in relations with other states (forming diplomatic relationships)
Nation state
When people of the same historical, cultural or linguistic roots form their own state with borders, a government and international recognition
State
Organized political unit that has geographic territory, stable population, government and it legally recognized by other states
Diaspora
Nation that is spread all over the world
Intergovernmental organizations
Agencies or bodies established by states and controlled by member states that deals with areas of common interest
Informal intergovernmental organizations
International organization made up of states, unlike an IGO it is not permanent. Operate as an annual meeting or conference.
Multinational corporation (MNC)
Private enterprises or companies that have facilities, sales or activities in more than one state
Media
Means of mass communication and transmission of information that reach or influence people widely
Non- governmental organization (NGO)
Private association of individuals or groups that engage in political activity. If the activities occur across national borders then the group is an international NGO.
E.g. Red cross, WWF
Social movement
Loosely organized movement, but sustained campaign in support of a social goal.
E.g. ‘black lives matter’ , ‘free Palestine’ , ‘Greta Thunberg’
Resistance movement
Organized group of individuals that fights for freedom or justice, usually against the gov. Can be violent in order to disrupt the civil order and stability.
E.g. New Caledonia, Syrian
Interest group
Group that has some common political interest or objective
Pressure group
Organized group of people who forcefully try to persuade a gov or other authority to do something.
