Define the term ‘Conformity’
A change in a persons behaviour or opinions as a result of real or imagined pressure from a person or group of people.

What was Asch’s Aim?
To measure the extent that people conformed to the opinion of others, even in a situation when the other’s answers were clearly wrong.

Varied the number of confederates from 1-15 (total group size was 2-16)

What were the results from the group size variation?
Curvilinear relationship.
Increased with group size but only to a point.
With three confederates, conformity to the wrong answer rose to 31.8%.
The presence of more than three confederates made little difference.

How did Asch change the procedure for the unanimity variation study
He introduced a dissenter confederate that disagreed with the other confederates. In one variation he gave the right answer, and in other variations he gave a different wrong answer.
