Lithosphere
The part of the earth made by land.
Hydrosphere
The part of the earth made up of oceans, lakes, rivers, ect.
Atmosphere
The air we breathe.
Biosphere
The part of the earth that supports life.
Eurasia
One huge land mass inhabiting Europe and Asia.
What is the highest point on earth?
Mt. Everest in South Asia- 29,035 ft.
What is lowest point on earth?
On Land- Dead Sea 1,349 ft.
In the Ocean- Mariana Trench 35,827 ft.
Pangea
One gigantic super mass that was once our world.
Faults
When plates grind past each other creating cracks in the earth’s crust.
Earthquake
Sudden, violent movements of the plates along the fault line.
Volcanos
Are mountains formed by lava or magma that break through the crust when it erupts.
Glacial erosion
Changes the landscape, destroys forests, crave out valleys, alters rivers, and wear down mountains
Spring equinox
The daytime and the nighttime hours are equal
Summer solstice
Marks the beginning of summer for the northern hemisphere and is the longest day of sunlight.
Fall equinox
Marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere.
Winter solstice
Shortest day of daylight marking the beginning of winter.
What are the seasons like in the poles?
For six months of the year is only sunlight and for the next six months their is no sunlight.
What is El Niño?
Is a periodic change in the pattern of the ocean currents and water temperatures in the mid-pacific region.
Explain the rain shadow effect?
If often causes dry areas even deserts to develop on the leeward sides of the mountain ranges.
Tropical rain forest
Their is lush vexation and a lot of animals, most of the medicine comes from the rain forest plants, it has an average of 80 degrees, and their is rain every day, has an average of 80 inches of rain per year.
Tropical savanna
They have dry winters, wet summers, and has high year around temperatures. It has less trees than the rain forest.
Deserts
Dry areas with sparse plant life, temperature varies, and the yearly rain averages no more than 10 inches a year.
Steppes
They often border deserts, they are large treeless grass lands, yearly rain averages 10-20 inches of rain.
Marine west coast
Mid-latitude includes a four temperature climate, and is very big in the lumber industry.
