Unit 1 Flashcards
(32 cards)
Antitussives
- cough suppressant
Decongestant
- alpha 1 receptor agonist
- vasoconstriction nasal mucosa
Decongestant Concern
- increased bp
Antihistamine
- treats allergy like symptoms
- blocks histamine type 1 receptors in upper airways
Mucolytics
- breaks up viscosity of mucous making it easier to expel
Expectorants
- increased production of thinner more liquid mucous
- works with mucolytics
Bronchodilators
- stimulates smooth muscle contraction
Epinephrine
- beta agonist
- in antiasthmatic drugs and for allergic reactions
- produces vasoconstriction and controls bleeding in surgery
Xanthines
Bronchodilator similar to caffeine
Xanthine Concerns
Cardiac arrhythmias
Anticholenergics
- stimulate bronchial smooth muscle contraction
Glucocorticoids
- anti inflammatory steroids
SaO2 target:
SaO2 w/ COPD target
- 94-100%
- 88-92%
Osteoblast
Build/ synthesize osteoid
Osteoclast
- bone macrophages
Osteomyelitis
Inflammation in bone
Osteopenia
- decreased bone density (not as worse as osteoporosis)
Osteopetrosis
Overly dense bone
Osteomalasia
Softening of bone due to lack of vitamin d
Osteoarthritis stages
Fibrillation , fissuring, eburnation
Osteogenesis imperfecta
- abnormal formation of type 1 collagen
- bones don’t form normally
Pagets disease
Disrupts bone formation
- bowing of long bones
Ischemic Necrosis
- loss of blood supply in bone = death
Stages of fracture
Inflammation - days to 1 wk - inflammatory cells and fibrin mesh seal formation
Repair- 1-3 wks - cells proliferate and damaged tissue is replaced
Remodeling 3months -1 yr - scar becomes functional
