Unit 1 Flashcards
How could you increase reactions?
- increasing the concentration
-decreasing particle size
-rising temperature
-adding a catalyst
How would you calculate the average rate of reaction?
◇quantity- ◇quantity
———————-‐————-
◇Time-◇Time
Which makes a faster reaction?
Lumps or powder?
Power since the particles are smaller
What is a catalyst?
Something that speeds up a chemical reaction
Can catalysts change after a reaction?
No they remain unchanged after the chemical reaction
There are 2 ways of measuring gas, name 2 experiments.
Test tube and syringe which measures the volume of gas
Test tube and measuring cylinder in water collects gas as water goes down
Which one would be faster?
A low line getting higher by the middle or a line being already higher then the lower line?
The higher line
What is average rate?
The change in the quantity of reactant or product over time
Proton charge? , mass , location?
Positive charge , 1 mass, nucleus
Electron charge?, mass? , location
Negative charge, mass 0, outer energy shell
Neutron charge?, mass? , location?
Positive charge , 1 mass , nucleus
What does the center of an atom have in its nucleus?
Protons and neutrons
What is the atomic number?
Number at the bottom of the symbol.
This equals to the number of protons
What is a mass number?
Top number on the symbol, this is the number of protons AND neutrons.
How do I calculate the amount of neutrons?
Mass number - atomic number
