Introduction to Playing, C Position, & The Grand Staff
Proper posture
To lean slightly forward, letting the arms hang loose, the elbows should be higher than the keyboard, feet flat on the floor.
Curved fingers
when fingers are curved each finger is the same length
Curved fingers bring the thumb into the correct playing potions
Keys respond instantly
Curved fingers make an arch for crossing over and under the thumb

thumb 1 pointer 2 middle 3 ring 4 pinky 5
Quarter note
a musical note with the time value of ¹/₄ of a whole note
Half note
a musical note equal in time to ½ of a whole note.
Bar line
a vertical line that divides one bar from another in a written piece of music.
Measure
a segment of time within a piece of music defined by a given number of beats.
Double bar line
A double bar line made out of two thin lines will separate distinct parts of a piece of music.
Treble clef
symbol is often seen on the top line/staff of a piano score (also called the treble line).
Whole note
rhythm worth 4 beats of sound
Bass clef
clef for the left-hand notes/clef for lower pitches
Grand staff treble
the combination of treble and bass clef, joined together with a bracket.
Bracket/brace
thick black line that groups measure together
