What is Democracy?
A democracy is where the citizens of a country hold the power and can control elections and decisions within the country.
What is a Dictator?
A single person ruling with absolute power
What is Authoritarianism
The blind submission to authority and the repression of individual freedom of thought and action
What is an authoritarian regime?
When one person or a small group of individuals hold absolute power over a country
What is Sovereignty?
The ability of a state to govern itself without foreign interference
What is a Nation?
A large body of people united by common descent, history, culture or language.
What is a Nation State?
A sovereign state in which most of the citizens or subjects are united also by factors which define a nation.
Define International Relations
Relations between foreign powers
What is The State?
An area owned by native people exercising power on their own territory
Define Power
The ability to do something or act in a particular way
Define Governance
The action or manner or governing a state, organisation, etc.
Define Legitimacy
Ability to be defended with logic or justification
Define Transparency
No citizens are being manipulated under a system of government and are allowed the right to free speech
Define Accountability
The fact or condition of being accountable; responsibility.
What is the Rule of Law?
All citizens and institutions are accountable to the law
Define Human Rights
Rights inherent to all human beings
What are Universal Human Rights?
Rights inherent to all human beings regardless of gender or culture
What are Culturally Relative Human Rights?
Rights inherent to all human beings based on culture
What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)?
A document that was created to protect and promote the basic rights and freedoms that all people should have, regardless of where they live or who they are
What is the Human Rights Law?
A set of rules and principles that are meant to protect the basic rights and freedoms of every person.
What is the Responsibility to Protect (R2P)?
The responsibility of governments and the international community to protect people from severe harm, such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. If a government is unable or unwilling to protect its own citizens from these kinds of atrocities, then other countries and the international community have a responsibility to step in and take action to protect those at risk.
What is Humanitarian Aid?
Material and logistical aid to people who require help
