What is a value?
A deeply held judgement that something is important
What is a belief?
A judgement that something is true without proof.
What significant political/economic decisions can values cover?
- Individualism VS Collectivism
- Government involvement in the economy
- Method of selecting leaders
What is tolerance?
- Recognise and Respect the rights and opinions of others.
- Not the same as accepting
What is an ideology?
A system of thought based on beliefs and values about how the world SHOULD WORK and how we SHOULD LIVE together.
What is the difference between an ideology vs worldview?
- Ideology: How the world should work
- Worldview: How the world is operating currently
List the Ideological Influences
- Culture
- Media: Controlled by certain companies/people
- Religion/Spirituality
- Gender
The Left and Right Wings
- Left: Advocates of radical change
- Right: Supporters of existing order
Radical
- Extreme left
- Want large change
- Completely destroy existing system and replace it.
Examples: Karl Marx
Liberal
- Left
- Wants change but not a lot
Moderate
- Center
- Opens to change if it will benefit society
- Changes in a slower pace
Conservative
- Right
- Wants to maintain the current state
Reactionary
- Extreme right
- Good old days

Collectivism
An ideology that places the group first
Individualism
An ideology that places the individual first
Liberalism
An ideology advocating for individual rights, freedoms and equality before the law.
Rule of Law
- Law of itself has greatest power and all individuals are equal before the law and fall under the same law.
