Define accuracy

A

Accuracy refers to how close a measurement is to its standard or known value.
Ex. The shots were accurate when they went in the basket and the end result was equal to the expected outcome. (Making the basket)

Define precision

A

Precision refers to how close two or more measurements are to each other, regardless of whether those measurements are accurate or not.
Ex. When David was hitting the top right corner of the blackboard, his shots were precise because they were occurring in the same area, but they were not accurate because he was not making the basket.

A

That which you don’t know for certain.

  1. All non-zero digits are significant
  2. Leading zeros AKA placeholders are not significant
  3. Embedded zeros between two non zero digits are significant
  4. Trailing zeros are only significant if there’s a decimal point
  5. Exact numbers like 10 have an infinite number of significant fig
  6. Conversions factors do not affect significant figures
