Unit 1 Flashcards
(31 cards)
What are the 4 tissue types
Epithelial
Connective
Muscle
Neural
What are the levels of organization?
Molecule/chemical, cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
What are the 3 components in feedback loops
Receptor
Control center
Effector
Negative feedback loop….
And example
Reverses direction body was going in the first place
Ex Touching a hot stove
Positive feedback loop….
And example
Doesn’t reverse, goes more in the same direction
Very rare
Ex birth or lactation
Abduction
Arms going away from body, take away from midline
Adduction
Arms going to body, add to midline
Epithelial tissue function and location
Function: forms barriers, lines digestive
Location: sweat glands
Connective tissue function and location
Function: stores energy, provides structural support
Location: cartilage, fat, blood
All throughout body, never exposed to outside
What are the three types of muscle tissue? Location? Function?
- Skeletal
Function: stabilizes body temp
Location: - Heart
- Smooth
Function: moves food through GI
Location: all other muscle in the body that’s not skeletal or the heart
Neural tissue location
Function: carries info to/from brain
What are the 3 protein fibers
Reticular
Collagen
Elastic
Describe reticular fibers
Branches, strong
Describe collagen fibers
Thick, strong, pink bands
Describe elastic fibers
Stretchy, slender, hair like
What is the location, structure and function of simple squamous epithelium tissue?
Simple - 1 layer
Located in lungs, lining of blood vessels and the heart
Function: easy gas exchange
What is the location, structure and function of simple cuboidal epithelium tissue?
Simple 1 layer, cube/square
Located in glands and lining of bronchioles
Function is to secrete and to move mucus out of the bronchioles
What is the location, structure and function of stratified squamous epithelium tissues?
Several layers
Located in skin
Function is protection
What is the structure, function and location of stratified cuboidal epithelium?
2-3 layers, ring like shape
Location: sweat glands and salivary glands
Function: Secretion, absorption, protection against infection
What is the structure, location and function of simple columnar epithelium tissue?
Structure: single layer of tall columns
Location intestines and stomach
Function: absorption
What is the structure, location and function of stratified columnar epithelium tissue?
*most rare
2 layers
Location: larynx
Function: protection, secretion
What is the location, structure and function of pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium tissue?
Location lining of the nasal cavity, trachea, nasal sinus
Structure: disorganized
Function: Secretes/ move mucus
What is the structure, location and function of transitional epithelium tissue?
Location: bladder
Function: accommodates fluctuations in the volume of fluid
Structure: The number of layers is based on if it’s stretched or not stretched
What are the 3 types of connective tissues?
Connective tissue proper, fluid connective tissues, supporting connective tissues
