Mouth
Chews food and adds saliva. Start of carbohydrate break down.
Oesophagus
Food passes down this tube.
Stomach
Adds acid to kill bacteria and allows digestive chemicals to work. Churns to mix. Start of protein digestion. (Food is mixed with digestive juices and acids.)
Liver
Produces Bile, that is released in the entrance of the small intestine to help break down the lipids.
Pancreas
Produces digestive chemicals which aid the digestion of carbs, proteins and lipids.
Small intestine
Carbs, proteins, and lipids are broken down and absorbed into the bloodstream.
Large intestine
Only food that cannot be digested gets this far. Water passes back into the body leaving a solid waste of undigested food called feces.
Rectum
Feces are stored until they leave the body.
Anus
Muscular ring through which feces pass out of the body.
