What makes a good TT?
- knows when to center class around him/her or the SS, according to the activity
- kind, patient, knowledgeable, available, prompting, encouraging, empathetic, good scanner, and lead w/ example
Which role and when?
- TT Needs to change roles and do such roles effectively depending on the activity
- TT needs to engage SS properly, use his tools effectively (besides good TT qualities)
What makes a good learner?
- willingness to listen 2 language
- desire to experiment w language
- willing to ask ?s
- reflect on their own learning and methods
- acceptance of error correction
- desire to learn
- TT needs to tap into and foster these attributes
Ages:
Post puberty / early teen age learner (13+).
3 traits!
- often unmotivated
- self conscious
- unwilling to take risks or experiment w/ language
Ages:
Pre-puberty learner (8-12)
- more receptive to new sounds, words, and Grammar of foreign language
Ages:
Very young learners (preschool,7-)
- shorter attention spans
- do not even know mother tongue grammar well
- more keen on games, fun, singing, drawing, etc
Learning experience:
Adults
- Long history of learning experience
- mixed expectations and bias on what works and what doesnt
- come with their own story of success and failure (beliefs)

- more open minded to learn new experiences and methods

- TT needs to make classes more varied, interesting and encourage motivation

*TT needs to be gentle and encouraging and build confidence

Beginners
- 0 knowledge to basic knowledge, so difficult to ACTIVATE SCHEMATA

Elementary
- SS SHOULD be able to form basic sentence structure and communicate on simple topics

Low/pre-intermediate
- able to communicate and understand a greater variety of topics but lacking general FLUENCY & DEPTH of language awareness
- still can make many errors even with basic structures

- able to understand and communicate on a wide range of issues using limited vocab store
- still lacking accuracy & fluency

Upper intermediate
- should be able to communicate on almost all topics using a geater range of language
- still lacking accuracy

- more subtle language items are 2b studied
