Unit 1: Intro to Anatomy Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is anatomy?
The study of internal and external body structures (relationships btw. structures = subdivisions)
What is level 1 of organization?
The chemical level (basic level) = atoms (like H+ and O) can be combined to make more complex structures (like H2O)
What is level 2 of organization?
The cellular level = molecules form organelles (little organs) which form cells (about 75 trillion cells in human body)
What is a cell?
A cell is a basic unit of structure and function (200+ types in body)
What is level 3 of organization?
The tissue level = combination of cells (but still contain chem.s), aka a group of structurally similar cells w/ a common function
What are the four major tissue types?
i. Epithelial
ii. Connective Tissue (CT)
iii. Muscle
iv. Nervous
What is level four of organization?
The organ level = 2 OR MORE tissues working together for a common function (! more than 1 tissue automatically means you are at the organ level)
What is level five of organization?
The organ system level = several related organs that work together to accomplish a common purpose.
What is level six of organization?
The organism = all systems function together to maintain like (aka you :))
