unit 1 list 2 experimental design Flashcards
(13 cards)
claim
a statement which answers an investigation question
constant
The factors that do not change during the experiment.
evidence
information, facts or data supporting (or contradicting) a claim, assumption or hypothesis
experimental procedure
the manner in which an experiment is carried out
scientific model
a physical and/or mathematical and/or conceptual representation of a system of ideas, events or processes
manipulated variable
a factor that is purposefully and specifically changed by the experimenter
reason
a problem-solving process that involves critical thinking in relation to content, procedural, and epistemic knowledge
responding
the factor that is measured by the scientist as a result of the effects of the manipulated variable
scientific question
one where an investigation can be designed and completed to find out the answer without having to do multiple, entirely different investigations to get there
valid experiment
a research method that accurately measures the effect of an independent variable on a dependent variable
trends in data
describes the general change in a variable with time
scientific theory
a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment
