Unit 1 Simple Circuits Flashcards
(21 cards)
What is a source?
A source is where a thing comes from or starts
What is a device ?
A device is something which changes one type of energy into a different type of energy
What is a system made up of?
A system is made up of many parts
What do these parts do?
These parts work together to perform a special function, such as a kettle heating water
What is the role of a circuit?
The role of a circuit is to send electricity from the source to the device
What are the three things that an electrical system has?
An input source, a device and an output source
Will a system work without these three stages ?
No it will not work because the device needs all the materials to work
Name me the three components of a simple circuit
A source of energy, a conducting material and a device
Name me some examples of a source of electricity?
Mains electricity or a cell or a battery
What is the wire that most people use for a conductor ?
This is copper wire
What are the four types of output energy?
Heat, light,sound and movement
Give me four examples?
Kettle-heat, motor-movement, light bulb-light and a buzzer-sound
Name me a object that can break the flow of electricity in a circuit?
A switch
What do electricians use to show electrical circuits?
They use diagrams
What do they use instead of drawing a cell or bulb?
They use symbols
What are conductors?
Conductors are materials that allow electricity to pass through them
Why do people not use aluminum as a conductor?
Because even though aluminum is cheap it is not a good conductor
We do not use gold and silver as conductors why?
Because even though they are good conductors they are very expensive
Why do we use copper wire as conductors?
Because it is a good conductors and it is cheap
What are insulators?
Insulators are materials that do not pass through electricity
Name some insulators?
Rubber gloves, plastic cover, glass insulators, ceramic insulators , plastic-coated pliers and porcelain spark plug
