What is Business

What is file management
The activity of managing your workspace. It is done to ensure you can find data when needed.
What is an another name for folders?
Directories
What are the 2 parts of file names?
The name and the extension
What are the 2 rules for naming?
1) Up to 255 characters including spaces.
2) Special characters such as \, /, :, *, ?, “, |, <, > are not allowed.
What is the ancestor of all key-based text entry devices?
Typewriter
Where does the computer keyboard come from?
Teleprinters and keypunches.
What keys are home row?
Left: A, S, D, F.

What is computer hardware?
Any part of the computer you can touch. The physical part.
What are the 4 categories of Hardware?
1) Processor
2) Memory
3) Input and Output devices
4) Storage devices
What is processor?
the procedure that changes data to information.
What is memory and what are the 2 types?
Memory is the internal data storage that comes in the form of microchips.
RAM: Short term, stores data while the computer is on.
ROM: Long term, stores data while the computer is on and off.
Describe the difference between Input and Output devices. Provide an example of each.
Input is a piece of hardware that is used to provide data and control signals. Keyboard
Output is a piece of hardware that receives data from the computer and convert it into a human-perceptible form. Printer
What is storage and what are the 3 types?
Storage is used to hold large amounts of information.
1) Magnetic storage devices: data written and read using magnetic media
2) Optical storage devices: data read using a laser beam
3) Memory chip devices: a small printed circuit board.
What is ergonomics?
The relationship between workers and their working environment.
Why worry about ergonomics?
Repetitive stress injuries and eye strain
What are the 8 ergonomic practices?
1) Your chair should have back support and arm rest.
2) The monitor should be 2 1/2 eye level, tilt face upwards, keep your screen clean.
3) Sit up straight and feet flat.
4)Keep wrist straight.
5)Rest your eyes occasionally.
6) Avoid pounding the keys or gripping the mouse.
7) Avoid bright colours
8) Take breaks
What is a firewall?
A security system designed to prevent unauthorized access
What is a virus?
A program that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and run without your wishes
What is spam?
usually an e-mail advertising for a product sent to a mailing list or newsgroup. It eats up a lot of network bandwidth.
What is hate and discrimination online?
With the evolution of the internet, creates new ways to communicate with others. Meaning new ways to make fun and bully others online.
What is digital divide?
The gap between those with regular, effective access to digital and information technology and those without this access.
What is the copyright law?
A law to protect those who create an idea or product so no one can steal it and claim it as their own.
