what are archetypes?
basic elements that are shared in many stories
what is status que?
intro/exposition, introduces characters and setting
what is the call to adventure?
the catalyst, the moment when the story takes a toll
what is the assistance?
gives physical, mental, or emotional help to prepare the hero
what is the departure?
the adventure begins, hero “leaves” the normal world behind
what is the road of trials?
the rising action, longest part of the story, makes it more interesting and complicated
what is the approach?
the moment leading up to the climax
what is the crisis?
when the hero nearly fails, just before the climax
what is the treasure?
the hero won and goal is achieved
what is the result?
after the hero achieved his/her purpose
what is the return?
when the hero leaves the special world
what is the new life?
life changed after the journey is over
what is the resolution?
loose ends are tied up

hero’s normal life after the big adventure
what is the hero?
the protagonist who rises to meet a challenge and saves the day
what is the classical/romantic hero?
has unique attributes/qualities that distinguish them from the others
what is the everyday hero?
someone with no outstanding abilities, thrown into extraordinary circumstances where they must act heroically
what is the superhero?
has powers that ordinary people don’t posses, usually supernatural
what is the tragic hero?
possesses a fatal flaw/makes poor judgement that leads to their downfall
what is the epic hero?
possess otherworldly heroic qualities
what is the anti-hero?
possesses traits that are uncommon/undesirable in a hero, sometimes act more like a villan
what is the father figure/mentor?
wise figure who serves as a guide and represents what the hero is trying to become
what is the sidekick?
usually associated with the protagonist, provides assistance and friendship
what is the magician?
powerful figure who harnessed the ways of the universe to achieve key goals
