PROS: hard/tough/attractive grain/good weather resistance
CONS: contains tannic acid which will corrode steel screws or fixings
USES: furniture/flooring/boat building/boat building/cladding/interior and exterior joinery

Hardwood
PROS: rich dark red colour/water resistant/hard/tough
CONS: can contain interlocking grain making it more difficult to work
USES: indoor furniture/shop fittings and cabinets/veneers commonly used on manufactured boards

PROS: tough/close-grained - smooth/hard/available in steamed (white colour) and un-steamed (pink tinge)
CONS: not weather resistant/not durable without a finish
USES: chairs/chopping boards/tools/steam bent laminated furniture/turned bowls

PROS: straight grain - easy to work with/sustainable/weather resistant
CONS: can contain resinous knots - bleed through paint and make weakens it
USES: construction work/roofing beams/timber frame construction/interior joinery

CONS: can corrode ferrous metals due to acidic nature/flammable
