Unit 2-B Flashcards
What is strength?
The ability of a material to stand up to forces being applied without bending, breaking, shattering or deforming in any way
What is elasticity?
The ability of a material to absorb force and flex in different directions, returning to its original position
What is plasticity?
The ability of a material to change shape permanently
What is ductility?
The ability of a material to change shape usually by being stretched along its length
What is tensile strength?
The ability of a material to stretch without breaking or snapping
What is malleability?
The ability of a material to be reshaped in all directions without snapping
What is toughness?
A characteristic of a material that does not break or shatter when receiving a blow or sudden shock
What is hardness?
The ability of a material to resist scratching wear, tear and indentation
What is conductivity?
The ability of a material to conduct electricity
What is density?
The mass per unit volume of a material
What is compressive strength?
The ability of a material to withstand being crushed or shortened by pushing forces
