  • Monochronic cultures see times as linear and sequential. Ex. Great Britain, Germany, and Japan
  • Polychronic cultures: time revolves around many things happening at the same time with many people involved
  • Time is elastic, meetings are flexible and relationship building is important.
  • Common in France, Italy Greece and Mexico.

Define “spatial perception”

A

Spatial perception refers to individual comfort levels with personal space and physical contact
* In Asian, Canadian, American and British cultures, formal touching is “ok”, such as a handshake.
* Some countries see any touching as offensive, especially between genders
* Affects seating arrangements during meetings. In Canada business people usually sit across from each other but in China this is seen as uneasy and sitting side by side is the norm.
