Unit 2- Field Techniques Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is phylogenetics?
The study of the evolutionary history and relationships among individuals or groups of organisms.
What organisms are nematodes ?
Flatworms (worms)
What organisms are arthropods?
Insects, spiders.
What organisms are chordates?
Fish, birds mammals
What are capture techniques?
Cameras, nets, traps
Describe mark and recapture.
N = MC / R
M: number marked and captured
C: total number recaptured
R: marked and recaptured in C
N: total population size.
What are the measurements for animal behaviour?
Latency: time between stimulus and response
Frequency: number of times behaviour occurred in observation period
Duration: length of time of each behaviour
What is an ethogram?
Lists species-specific behaviours and records them
What is a time budget?
Time of each behaviour spent in proportion to the total time of observation.
Describe anthropomorphism.
The attribution of human traits to non human organisms. Can lead to inaccurate conclusions.
