What is the Magna Carta
The Magna Carta is a document that talks about limited government, rule of law and due process.
What was the English Bill of Rights?
The English Bill of Rights expanded the rights of the parliament and the limiting the powers of the king.
What did the Mayflower Compact establish?
The Mayflower compact was a document for a new government for the pilgrims.
Established: Self government, social contract, consent of the governed, Rule of Law.
What was the document Common sense?
What was it used for?
A popular pamphlet written in 1775-76 that inspired the colonists to declare their independence from Great Britain, Influenced the Declaration of Independence.
Who was John Locke?
What concept did he create?
John Locke was a philosopher in 1632, He came up with concept of natural rights and the state of nature and social contract.
Who was Baron De Montesquieu?
Made new ideas about separation of powers and checks and balances.
Direct Democracy?
A form of government in which the people vote themselves rather than elect representatives,
Republic?
A country where power is held by the power of the representatives that they elect.
Monarchy?
Government in which one person a king or queen rules with authority inherited through royal image.
Autocracy?
Absolute power for one person who has unlimited authority.
Federal?
The central government is 50% and the states have 50% power.
Confederal?
When the states have 90% and the national has 10%
Unitary?
When the central government has 90% and the states has 10%
What is capitalism?
People can produce and sell their own products and the government can’t stop them.
What is Socialism?
Socialism favors a more equal distribution of wealth and income rather than individual Equal.
What is Communism?
Classless society and an economy where properties, factories and companies are by the government.
What was the result on the colonists and the French & Indian war?
After the war the British had a massive debt, and wanted the colonists to help pay.
What was the Stamp act?
When did it happen?
The Stamp act taxed paper goods the colonists protested and petitioned

Define the meaning of the phrase “No taxation without Representation”
It ment that they did not have representation in New Englands parliament where these taxes were passed.
What were the Quartering Acts?
In 1765 the British sent soldiers who were to be “quartered” in housing provided by the colonists.
What was the Townshend Revenue Acts?
A new duty (tax) placed on impacts: tea, lead, paint, paper and glass.
What was the Boston Massacre?
Britain solders shot an “unarmed” crowed of protesters killings and injuring 6 people.
What happened at the Boston Tea Party?
After repealing the Townshend Acts the British kept a duty on tea. on December 16,1773 Protesters dumped tea into Boston Harbor.
What did the Intolerable Acts do?
The intolerable Acts: closed Boston Harbor, suspended Boston legislature. The intolerable Acts are also called the coercive Acts.
