It shows the reason her house has stunk, and it was due to the fact that she murdered Homer and still slept in the same bed with him every night. It ended the wonder where Homer was because most people thought he just disappeared.

She was able to keep her secret so long because the room where he was kept was locked and no one went inside expect for her. Many of the townspeople thought her house just stunk because she wasn’t able to keep her kitchen clean so they didn’t say anything or investigate.
