Bronchiodialtor, sympathomimetic, beta 2 agonist
Albuterol actions
Selective beta 2 adrenergic bronchodilator and causes bronchial smooth muscle relaxation
Albuterol onset and duration
5-8 minutes, 2-6hrs after inhalation
Albuterol Indications
Bronchial asthma, reversible bronchospams associated with chronic bronchitis or emphysema with wheezing, hyperkalemia, anaphylaxis
Albuterol contraindications
Pts with history of hypersensitivity to the drug
Albuterol side effects
Cardiac disrythmyias, tremors, dizziness, nervousness, headache, anxiety, palpitations, nausea and tachy
Albuterol route
Aerosolized using 8lmp/pupe or 10lpm mask
Albuterol dose
2.5 MG in 3ml, nebulized until med is gone. May repeat up to 3 doses.

Less than 2 yes old, 1/2 the adult dose. 1.5 ml (1.25mg)
Albuterol supplied
2.5 MG in 3 ml of NS in plastic amps or containers
Albuterol Special considerations
Preg Cat C.
Albuterol may precipitate angina pectoris or dysryhtmias. May not work if pt is taking a beta blocker. Bronchiospasms, monitor pt BP, pulse and Lung sounds

Anaphylaxis, allergic reaction, acute dystonic reactions
Diphenhydramine contraindications
Acute asthmatic reaction, nursing mothers and hypersensitive
Diphenhydramine side effects
Drowsiness, confusing, hypotension, dry mouth, wheezing and palpitations. Tachy and hypertension in large doses
