Q

Fragment Theory

A

Formulated by Louis Hartz. The theory stipulates that English Canadian political culture is not that much different from that of the United States. The central idea of the theory is that fragments of liberal ideologies such as individual freedom prevented traditional conservativism and socialist views from taking root. Hartz believed that a clash between traditional conservatism and liberalism is necessary to form a synthesis in the form of socialism.

Republicanism

A

Is a political ideology emphasizing the importance of a republic, a form of government where the head of state is an elected or appointed official, not a hereditary monarch. It advocates for representative democracy, civic virtue, and the common good. Republicans believe in the active participation of citizens in the political process, promoting the idea that political power should be held by the people and exercised through elected representatives.
