When a user gains access to a network without permission
What are botnets?
Groups of computer that are used without an owners knowledge to spread malware
What is malware?
Malicious software - software created with the intention of causing harm to a computer system

What is a virus?
Program that can replicate itself on a user’s computer (corrupts files & deletes data)
What is spyware?
Software that allows you to spy on a user’s activities on their devices
What is ransomware?
Malware that locks your computer and encrypts documents with a demand for money
What is phishing?
Spam emails - Sending fraudulent, legit looking emails from a company trying to get your personal details
What is pharming?
Fake website - Typing a website into a browser and being redirected to a fake website to trick users into entering personal data
What are methods of securing data?
Passwords

Biometrics
What are biometrics?
Way of authenticating a user using human characteristics (e.g. Face ID)
What is CAPCHA?
Method of testing if a website request originates from a human or a bot (could be text, image or checkbox)
What is anti-malware software?
Software to prevent computers from being susceptible to viruses and other malware
How does anti-malware software work?
Scans through data and checks against a list of known malware which it will block
What is HTTP?
Allows communication between clients and servers for website viewing
What is HTTPS?
Same as HTTP with an added layer of security
What do online payment systems do?
Allows for payment of goods and services online
What are advantages of Online payment systems?

What is NFC?
Near field communication - allows for payment transactions if the card/ device is in close proximity

Users can tap their cards (1) because NFC is a contactless payment method (2)
