behavioural conditioning
a process by which an animal or other organism can passively learn to show a naturally occuring reflex action in response to any stimulus learning through association
repeated association
naturally occuring response to a new stimuli
ivan pavlo
1849-1936
work laid the foundation for behaviourism and has has a lasting impact on psychology, education, and even marketing. his research demonstrated the power of associative learning and has been applied to various feild to understand and modify behaviour
neutral stimulus
ns - a stimulus/object that produces no naturally occuring response
three phase process - phase 1
before conditioning - involves a response to a stimulus that has not yet been conditioned. it is natural or automatic.
this is explained as a UCS that results in a UCR
role of the learner
passive- they have no control
nature of response
reflexive/involuntary/natural/automatic
timing of response and stimulus
stimulus must occur before their can be a response
Three phase process- second phase
during conditioning- involves the development of an associationg between the neutral stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus
three phase process- third phase
after conditiong- results in the now conditioned stimulus producing a conditioned response as a result of its association with the unconditioned stimulus
unconditioned stimulus
ucs- a stimulus/object that is presented that produces a naturally occuring response
unconditioned response
ucr- a reaction/response that occurs naturally upon the presentation of ucs
conditioned stimulus
cs- something that is presented that when repeatedly paired with an ucs produces a cr
conditioned response
cr- a taught conditioned reaction/response that occurs upon presentation of a cs
