What is public health?
Relates to improving the health status of an entire population
Public health includes efforts to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life among the population as a whole.
What is old public health?
Government action focused on changing physical environments to prevent the spread of disease
Old public health primarily addressed sanitation and hygiene to control infectious diseases.
Define sanitation.
The process of eliminating contact between humans and hazardous wastes, including human and animal wastes, wastewater, industrial wastes, and agricultural wastes
Sanitation is essential for preventing disease and maintaining public health.
What is the biomedical approach?
The physical or biological aspects of disease and illness. A medical model of care practiced by doctors and health professionals associated with the diagnosis, cure, and treatment of disease
The biomedical approach focuses on physiological factors and often overlooks social and environmental influences on health.
