Unit 5 Flashcards
Shaping
Differentially reinforcing successive approximations to a target response
Schedule of reinforcement
Specification of the relations among responses and stimuli that lead to an increase in the future probability of occurrence of such responses
Continuous reinforcement
A reinforcer follows every response; used to establish bx
Intermittent reinforcement
A reinforcer follows some, but not all, responses; used to maintain bx
Concurrent schedule
2+ schedules are arranged independently for 2+ different, and typically incompatible, responses; used to study choice
Matching
The relative rate of responding under alternative schedules is proportional to the relative rate of reinforcement under those schedules
Delay discounting
The value of a given reinforcer decreases as delay to that reinforcer increases
Ratio schedule
A reinforcer is arranged when a specified number of responses is emitted
Interval schedule
A reinforcer is arranged following the first response after a specified time has elapsed
Self-control
Choosing the larger, but more delayed, of two alternative reinforcers
