Unit 5 - Energy changes Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
How do cells generate voltage?
A
They contain chemicals that, when they react, produce a potential difference to power electrical devices. A battery is multiple cells connected together. They consist of two different metals in contact with an electrolyte.
2
Q
How do non-renewable vs renewable batteries work?
A
Non-renewable cells/batteries cannot be used again once the chemicals have been used up, whereas renewable batteries can perform the reverse reaction when a p.d is supplied
3
Q
How do hydrogen fuel cells work?
A
Water is separated into hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis. When they recombine, they produce a p.d
