Define the 15th Amendment
1870 - Post-Civil War, supporting African American rights
Removed race as a factor for voting registration
Define the 17th Amendment
1913 - Senate was millionares club
Senate was voted by popular vote
Define the 19th Amendment
1920 - Wave 1 = Woman’s Suffrage Movement
Removed sex/gender as a factor in voting registration
Define the 23rd Amendment
1961 - kinda just happened, some guy wanted to reform Senate vacancies and this was just added on and other stuff removed
Gives DC electors so that it can also vote for President
Define the 24th Amendment
1964 - CR Movement
Bans poll taxes/other taxes for elections
Define the 26th Amendment
1971 - Vietnam War: “old enough to fight, old enough to vote”
Lowers voting age to 18 yrs old
Explain how the Voting Rights Act protect the ideals of democracy
POC also have popular sovereignty, we’re enforcing that –> lets them influence representatives (republicanism)
