Unit 6 Flashcards
(80 cards)
Feasibility
The study of how possible or worthwhile it is to complete a project or task.
“Before starting the construction, the engineers conducted a feasibility study to ensure the project was viable.”
Analysis
The process of identifying and evaluating the needs of a system or project.
“The team carried out a needs analysis to determine the requirements for the new software.”
Installation
The process of setting up equipment or software to make it operational.
“The technician completed the installation of the new server smoothly.”
Layout
The arrangement or plan of something, such as machinery or equipment.
“The factory layout was designed to optimize the production process.”
Regulations
Rules or directives made and maintained by an authority.
“All engineering projects must comply with local safety regulations.”
Physical
Relating to things perceived through the senses as opposed to the mind; tangible or concrete.
“Engineers must consider the physical properties of materials in their designs.”
Perceptible
Able to be seen, heard, or felt; noticeable.
“The change in temperature was perceptible to everyone in the room.”
Variation
A change or difference in condition, amount, or level, typically with certain limits.
“We observed significant variation in the data collected from different sources.”
Vary
To differ in size, amount, degree, or nature from something else of the same general class.
“The electrical conductivity of materials can vary depending on their composition.”
Considerably
By a notable or significant amount; much.
“The cost of raw materials has increased considerably in the past year.”
Quantify
To measure or express the quantity of something.
“Engineers need to quantify the energy efficiency of the new design.”
Magnitude
The size, extent, or importance of something.
“The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 7.2 on the Richter scale.”
Buffet
To strike repeatedly and violently; to batter.
“The strong winds buffeted the coastal buildings throughout the night.”
Buffeting
The action of being struck repeatedly and violently.
“The bridge is designed to withstand the buffeting of high winds.”
Jolt
To move suddenly and violently.
“The sudden stop jolted the passengers forward.”
Jolting
The action of experiencing a sudden and violent movement.
“The jolting of the vehicle was uncomfortable for the passengers.”
Severity
The fact or condition of being severe.
“The severity of the storm caused widespread damage.”
Ingenious (adj)
Cleverly inventive and resourceful.
Example: “The engineer’s ingenious solution significantly reduced the project’s cost.”
Brainstorming (n)
A group problem-solving technique that involves the spontaneous contribution of ideas from all members of the group.
Example: “During the brainstorming session, we came up with several innovative designs.”
Progressively (adv)
Advancing in steps or degrees.
Example: “The software updates progressively improved the system’s performance.”
Continually (adv)
Repeated frequently in the same way; continuously.
Example: “The team continually tests the product to ensure its quality.”
Carve (v)
To cut (a hard material) in order to produce an object, shape, or design.
Example: “The artist carved a beautiful sculpture from a single block of marble.”
Carving (n)
The act or craft of shaping something by cutting it from a material.
Example: “The museum displayed ancient carvings that were centuries old.”
Statue (n)
