How did politics affect the start of the rebellion?

A
  • Elections were held after WW2 and the Smallholders Party (ordinary Hungarians) won 57% of votes.
  • However, Soviet Union refused to let them lead the government and made the Hungarian Communist party to form the government, even though they only won 17% of votes.
  • They ran Hungary against the people’s wishes.
