Unit 6 lesson 3 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Earth forms. First single called organisms evolve
Pre cambrian
An evolutionary burst in which new life forms evolve. Mostly invertebrates
Cambrian
First vertebrates appeared. Insects and plant life evolved
Ordovician
Plants grow abundantly. Evolved that they could flourish in drier areas. Early fish become more common in the seas
Silurian
Age of the fish. Vertebrates become more abundant. All types of fish even sharks evolve. Vertebrates first reach land.
Devonian
Reptiles and giant insects evolve. Ferns and cone bearing plants create forests.
Carboniferous
Mass extinction occurs. Pangea forms
Permian
Age of reptiles. Reptile flourish and first dinosaurs evolve. First mammals evolve.
Triassic
Dinosaurs become common. First birds evolve. Also had many sea and ocean creatures. Flying reptiles evolve
Jurassic
Diaspora are widespread. Birds begin to replace flying reptiles. Lowering plants appear. Another mass extinction occurs
Cretaceous
Mammals thrive. Grasses spread widely
Paleogene
Some mammals and birds evolve to become vey large
Neogene
Ice ages occur. Age of humans. First humans evolve
Quarternary
Contains the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and Permian period
Paleozoic era
Contains the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods
Mesozoic era
Contains the paleogene, neogene, and quarternary periods
Cenozoic era
When earth formed
Precambrian time
