Sam Houston
Signed the Texas declaration and was given command of Texan armies in 1836. He was also elected twice by Texans to be president of the republic.
Mirabeau B. Lamar
Ran for president after Sam Houston’s first time in office. He opposed just about all of Sam Houston’s policies, but mostly with the Native Americans.
Anson Jones
Elected president of Texas in 1844, wanted to consider both offers from the United States and Mexico. He and Congress quickly chose the US.
The Texas Rangers
Received no pay, had to provide their own horses, food, and guns. After the Texas revolution their main job was protecting settlers from native American raids.

What is a US Navy officer, he protected the Yucatán after their failed attempt to aid Mexican rebels.
Jose Antonio Navarro
Was sent to Santa Fe to invite them to join the republic of Texas. Food shortage, heat, And native American raids plagued Navarro and his troops. Plus the Mexican soldiers stop them and made them surrender at the Santa Fe borders.
William Goyens
What is one of the only free African-Americans that both lived and work in colonial Texas.
Jack “Coffee” Hays
Let a small band of Texas rangers that defeated the Mexican army. He was then a hero of this Saldo creek battle. Saldo creek ended the Mexican second invasion of San Antonio in 1842.
Chief Bowels
Leader of the Cherokees in Texas. The Mexican government never gave him plus Cherokee people land-grant, but when they did the Cherokee did not have the money to pay for it.
The Cordova Rebellion
Native Americans plus they homeowners who were loyal to Mexico secretly raised the rebellion against the Republic of Texas.

A fight which broke out between the Comanche and Texans.
Santa Fe Expedition
A failed expedition that was on officially initiated by the event president, Lamar, in an attempt to gain control over lucrative Santa Fe Trail and further develop trade links with New Mexico.

Comanche Nation
The Comanche people are federally recognized as the Comanche nation. They have his stork territory known as Comancheria in New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Regulator-Moderater War
A feud in Shelby County, started as a dispute of land ownership before becoming a violent conflict for control of the look local economy. Raids, livestock thievery, and murders erupted and took the lives of over 40 man.
The Mier Expedition
Was an offshot of, the Somervell expedition, on an unsuccessful military operation launched in November 1842 by text and militia against Mexican border settlements.

Martin did Nite Texan application for mission into the union, to keep balance in slavery-state seats for Congress, and not start anything with Mexico.
10th U.S. president- John Tyler
Was a firm believer in manifest destiny, he sought to strengthen the union most notably by the annexation of the republic of Texas.
11th U.S. President- James K. Polk
Won his election by promising to annex the republic of Texas. He achieved a sweeping victory when Mexico rejected the US annexation of Texas. He also reduce the tax on imported and domestic goods.
Manifest Destiny
The belief that the expansion of the US throughout the American continents was both justified and inevitable.
Rio Grande + Nueces Rivers
Marked the disputed border of Mexico and the republic of Texas. Mexico saw the nueces as the order, but Texas saw the Rio Grande as the border. The disagreement led to the US invasion of Mexico in 1846, after Texas had been admitted as a state.
Compromise Of 1850
An attempt to seek a compromise and avert a crisis between the north and south. Part of the fugitive slave act was amended and the slave trade in Washington, DC, was abolished.

Also known as the Mexican War or Invasion of Mexico was an armed conflict between the US and Mexico for 1846 to 1848.
