Who was Philip Nolan?
A filibuster from the United States that was sent to Texas with Spanish approval but when he entered Spain without permission he was killed in an attempt arrest. Spain was suspicious that the United States was trying to take control of Texas
What was the Gutierrez- Magee Expedition?
Jose Bernardo Gutierrez and Augustus Magee organized the republican army of the north and claimed Texas independent from Spain. He formed to continue the rebellion that Father Hidalgo had started and were defeated at the battle of Medina.
What was The Battle Of Medina?
Gutierrez- Magee expedition was defeated by the Spanish Royalist Army
Who was Jean Lafitte?
He helped the filibusters by attacking Spanish Ships. He was a pirate.
Who was Dr. James Long?
He led a group from Mississippi to Nacogdoches where he declared Texas independent from Spain. He was captured, taken to Mexico City, and later shot. His death ended the early filibuster period in Texas.
Who was Father Hidalgo?
A priest from Delores, Mexico that sparked a war for Mexican independence with his “Grito de Delores” or “Cry of Delores”
Who was Spanish General Joaquin de Arredondo?
He lad a campaign of revenge across Texas and crushed the rebellion for Mexican independence
