What is Historical Globalization?
the historical process of the world becoming more interconnected. This happens especially through trade and economic policies, which make it easier to exchange goods and ideas between countries.
What are the rounds of globalization?
Globalization 1.0 involved the globalization of countries, Globalization 2.0 involved the globalization of companies and Globalization 3.0 involves the globalization of individuals.
What is imperialism?
a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
What is old imperialism?
the time period, from the 1400s until the 1600s, in which European powers set out to explore, conquer, and establish colonial empires in order to make profit.
What is new imperialism?
period of intensified imperialistic expansion from the latter half of the 19th century until the outbreak of World War I in 1914.
What is industrial imperialism?
Some societies industrialized faster than others, and this enabled them to expand politically and economically into less developed regions around the world.
What is mercantilism?
a nation’s wealth and power were best served by increasing exports and reducing imports.
What is the rise of the middle class?
Urbanization played a significant role in the Rise of the Middle Class as it led to the growth of cities where new job opportunities emerged. People moved from rural areas to urban centers seeking work in factories and service industries.
What is capitalism?
an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.
What is enlightenment and the industrial revolution?
Enlightenment was an intellectual and cultural movement in the eighteenth century that emphasized reason over superstition and science over blind faith. Industrial Revolution was the process of change from an agrarian and handicraft economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing.
What is ethnocentrism?
the act of judging another culture and believing that the values and standards of one’s own culture are superior
What is eurocentrism?
the belief system that positions Europe as the central force in shaping world history, promoting universal values, and representing progress and development.
What is depopulation?
substantial reduction in the population of an area.
What is forced migration?
A migratory movement in which an element of coercion exists, including threats to life and livelihood, whether arising from natural or man-made causes
What is displacement?
Displacement is defined as the change in position of the body. It is also defined as the shortest distance between two points in a particular direction, from the initial point to the final point.
What does economically disadvantaged mean?
individuals whose ability to compete in the free enterprise system has been impaired due to diminished capital and credit opportunities
What is a civil strife?
the act or state of fighting or arguing violently
What is deindustrialization?
decline in industrial activity in a region or economy.
What was the scramble for Africa?
he way in which European countries brought nearly all of the African continent under their control as part of their separate empires. It began in the 1880s. By 1914 the only African countries not controlled by a European power were Liberia and Ethiopia.
What was the grand exchange?
The Columbian Exchange, was the exchange of goods and ideas from Europe, Africa, and Asia and goods and ideas from the Americas. It also spread different diseases. It started in 1492 when Christopher Columbus arrived in the West Indies (North America).

Round one included the silk road, trade, and spread of new ideas during 1492-1800. Round two included new ship designs and navigation technology during 1800-2000. Round three was post WWII and brough massive changes to technology during 2000-present day.
What is imperialism?
The ruling policy of establishing and enforcing the rule of a nation on outside people or countries.
What is old imperialism?
