Q

Oregon

A
  • Mainly Willamet valley
  • known for PN
  • ocean breezes seeping through the gaps in the mountains
someone protected from the pacifics influences
  • rain during the winter, long dey summerss w/ ample sinshine
cooler evenings great for ripening situation on the vines
  • Sauv Blanc not good here because it’s longer ripening and the threat of autumn rains loom
  • this is why it’s best for PN which is early ripening
  • vintages can be pretty variable on yields, much like burgindy
  • vineyards on hills where soils are less fertile and less risl of frost
  • rich, red iron soil known as jory (state soil)

  • an important factor in intensifying the flavor of grapes
  • valley lies in a rain shadow caused by the Cascades which contributes to it’s dry continental climate
  • hot days by cool nights
  • long and even growing period
  • irrigation is necessary
  • need to use turbines to get air circulating to prevent the vines from freezing
