Unity Test #3 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Define DNA synthesis. When does it occur?
The replication of more DNA it occurs during S phase
Define a chromosome
One piece of DNA that has many genes
What is the locus?
The location on a chromosome for a particular gene
What is a genome?
All of the genes in a cell
What is an allele?
Different version or variation of the same gene (t, T)
What is the composition of a DNA strand? Include nucleic, acids, and others.
ATCG surrounded by a sugar phosphate chain
Describe the difference between a duplicated and duplicated chromosome
On duplicated chromosome is a single line whereas a duplicated chromosome consists of two sister chromosomes
WRITE DOWN DIF BTW PROK CELLS AND EUK DURING CELL DIV
You can do it babe
DRAW LIFE CYCLES
Woofta this is a lot
What does antiparallel mean? draw a picture
3 to 5 one way 5 to 3 other (zipper)
What are free nucleotides?
Extra or access nucleotides that need to bind after DNA is separated. This completes a new strand of DNA.
Where does DNA split?
At specific origin spots. Not like zipper.
Does the top or bottom have continuous synthesis?
Bottom
Does the top or bottom have discontinuous synthesis?
Top
Describe the job of a telomere and what happens once it becomes too short
Telomeres keep DNA from falling apart. Small ends get cut off each time which makes the telomere shorter. Eventually, they will be unable to grow anymore.
What is the hay flick limit? What is it based on?
The limit of cell replication. Telomere length.
What is a telomerase?
They build telomeres and fixes the end, replication problem
