Untitled Deck Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the three components of architecture?
Firmitas (static strength and stability of the building), Utilitas (practical purpose of the building), Venustas (aesthetic purpose)
What are the forms of structural and architectural coherence?
Balance of external forces, balance of external and internal forces, interaction between aesthetics and technique
What are external forces?
Forces acting from outside - wind, load
What are internal forces?
Consequences of external forces - compression, tension, bending
What is required for equilibrium in action?
External forces must be balanced - a system of equilibrium forces must act on the action
What is a force?
An effect acting on an object that can cause movement
What is a reaction?
Response to the load acting on the action
What is stress?
Measure of intensity of internal forces - force related to unit area
What is a moment?
Rotational effect
What are the basic requirements for actions?
Equilibrium - prevention of movement, Stability - resistance to overturning, Strength - resistance of material to damage, Rigidity - shape stability, prevention of deformations
What is the need for the development of structural calculation theory?
Prediction of building behavior, safety, optimization of materials
What does statics of forces study?
The balance of forces
What does building mechanics address?
Behavior of structures
What are elasticity and strength?
Material properties under load
What does building dynamics study?
The effect of time-varying forces
What is a physical model of safety?
Simulation of real behavior of the structure
