URI and atypical cervicals - Ramey Flashcards
(8 cards)
physio changes that occur with URI
visceral afferent impulses from upper resp tract facilitate the upper thoracic spinal cord segments, leading to increased sympathetic tone to the head, neck, and lungs
OMM goals in treating URI
- improve arterial supply
- improve venous and lymphatic drainage
- reduce mm spasm and improve breathing
- reduce discomfort
- balance autonomic reflex disturbances
- improve immune function
why do we treat OA and AA in URI?
because OA and AA influence jugular foramen, where a majority of venous drainage from the head courses through the internal jugular veins
OA major and minor motions
major: flexion and extension
minor: rotating and sidebending
motions of OA
rotation and sidebending opposite
AA major motion
rotation
OA HVLA final corrective force
quick, rotation thrust to the left toward the patient’s eyes from right 2nd MCP joint (SD: FSLRR)
AA HVLA final corrective force
quick, rotation thurst to the left and toward the patient’s nose from 2nd MCP joint hand (SD: RR)
