Urinary Flashcards
(5 cards)
Why is urinary catheterisation difficult in males and female SACs
Male - urethral diverticulum at ischial arch
Female - ventral diverticulum at the external orifice making catheterisation difficult but not impossible
Methods for urine sampling in SACS
Free catch at the communal dung pile
Catheterisation (not males)
Cystocentesis - stabilise bladder per rectum & insert 18g needle percutanouslyon midline just cranial to the pubis (penis needs to be reflected laterally in the male)
Most common sites of urethral obstruction in SACs
1) where the wider pelvic urethra changes to the narrow penile urethra or
2) where the penile urethra narrows as it enters the glans penis (vs the sigmoid flexure in cattle)
Dx feature of peritoneal fluid for bladder rupture
Measure ptap createnine and potassium (>185mmol/L in urine vs <5 in serum)
Common composition of urinary calculi in camelids
