99% of the fluid that goes to the kidneys is
reabsorbed into the plasma
only 1% of fluid is
excreted as urine
normal output
@ least 30ml/hr.; 1500-1600ml in healthy adult / 24 hrs.
oliguria
less than 400 ml in 24 hrs (4 ml in 2 hrs), worried about dehydration; check turgur
anuria
less than 100 ml in 24 hrs; worried about renal shut down compromise
bladder holds
approx. 600 mls.
At each voiding–
100-200ml in adult and 50-200ml in child
Frequency–
3 to 4 hours

psychological effects urination
people under stress - smaller amounts, more frequent

bladder doesn’t push well with urine left
fluid balance effects urination
sodium will hold fluid, caffeine will stimulate fluid release
surgical procedures effects urination
causes edema and trauma and causes problems
medications effects urination
act as diuretics, or retention of urine, can turn color
diagnostic exams effects urination
limit fluid for period of time
urgency
need to void immediately, can be increased by medications
dysuria
painful urination (chart denies dysuria) if inflammation then it hurst
frequency
how often, problem if less than 2 hours apart
hesitancy
difficulty initiating urination
polyuria
large amounts of urine at 1 time, greater than 7.5L 2 cups; early signs of diabetes
