Urinary System Flashcards
Kidney in the Urinary System
Eliminates urea, minerals, and excess water
Kidneys regulate the amount of water we need to maintain in our bodies
Ureters
Tubes that take urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder
Urinary bladder
A sack that stores urine
Urethra
Small tube that leads urine out of the body
Urine from the kidney goes to the
Ureter then moves to the bladder to be expelled from the body
Structure of the Kidney contains
Cortex, Medulla, Pelvis
Cortex is the
Outmost part of the kidney
Medulla is the
Middle part of the kidney
Pelvis is the
Inner part of the kidney
The Renal artery is where
Dirty blood goes in the kidney
The Renal vein is where
Clean blood goes out the kidney
The Nephron is located in the
Medulla
Nephron is a
Filtering Unit
Nephron has 2 parts which is the
Renal Tubules and the Renal Corpuscle
The Renal Tubules contains the
Proximal Convolated Tubule (PCT)
Loop of Henle
Disital Convolated Tubule (DCT)
The Renal Corpuscle contains the
Glomerulus
Bowman’s Capsule
Urine Formation is in the nephron and it has 3 Stages which are
Filtration, Reabsorption, Secretion
Filtration happens in
The glomerulus (due to high pressure). It produces glomerular filtrate/primary urine. (except for blood cells and proteins because it is too big to go through the holes
Reabsorption happens in
The PCT to absorb all important substances back into the blood. It produces secondary urine containing waste, toxins, all dangerous/unimportant part
Secretion/Augmentation happens in
The DCT. Excess substance from the blood vessels will be put to tubule in the kidneys. It produces tertiary urine (Real Urine)
After Secretion Urine will flow into the
Collecting tubule - Pelvis - Ureter - Bladder - Urethra
The Clean Blood goes to the
Heart and then circulates around the body
