Urodynamics Flashcards
(33 cards)
What is urodynamics?
Functional study of the lower urinary tract.
What is uroflowmetry?
[Various definitions related to urine flow measurement]
What is cystometry?
Measurement of the pressure/volume relationship of the bladder during filling and/or pressure flow study during voiding.
What is a cystometrogram (CMG)?
Graphical recording of the bladder pressure(s) and volume(s) over time.
What is postvoid residual?
Volume of urine left in the bladder at the completion of micturition.
What is detrusor overactivity?
The occurrence of involuntary detrusor contractions during filling cystometry.
What is neurogenic detrusor overactivity?
Detrusor overactivity with evidence of a relevant neurological disorder.
What is normal (previously ‘stable’) detrusor function?
Little or no change in detrusor pressure with filling and no involuntary phasic contractions despite provocation.
What is bladder compliance?
Describes the relationship between a change in bladder volume and change in detrusor pressure.
What is detrusor underactivity?
Detrusor contraction of reduced strength and/or duration, resulting in prolonged bladder emptying and/or failure to achieve complete bladder emptying within a normal time span.
What is an acontractile detrusor?
The detrusor cannot be observed to contract during urodynamic studies, resulting in prolonged bladder emptying and/or failure to achieve complete bladder emptying within a normal time span.
What is bladder outflow obstruction?
Generic term for obstruction during voiding, characterized by reduced urine flow rate and/or raised PVR and increased detrusor pressure.
What is dysfunctional voiding?
Characterized by intermittent and/or fluctuating flow rate due to involuntary intermittent contractions of the peri-urethral striated or levator muscles during voiding in neurologically normal women.
What is detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DSD)?
Incoordination between detrusor and sphincter during voiding due to a neurological abnormality.
What is flow rate?
Volume of urine expelled via the urethra per unit time, expressed in ml/sec.
What does voided volume refer to?
Total volume of urine expelled via the urethra.
What is the maximum (urine) flow rate abbreviated as?
MUFR (ml/sec) or Qmax.
What does MUFR stand for?
Maximum measured value of the flow rate correcting for artifacts.
What is flow time?
The time over which measurable flow actually occurs.
What does average (urine) flow rate stand for?
AUFR (ml/sec) or Qave.
How is average flow rate calculated?
Voided volume divided by the flow time.
What is voiding time?
Total duration of micturition, including interruptions.
When is voiding time equal to flow time?
When voiding is completed without interruption.
