US AIR INTERVIEW Flashcards
Do you like where you work?
Yes I do, I have formed great relationships over the years there and becuase of the way I have advanced in the training department I always like coming to work becuase every day is different. Some days I do line checks, some days I do recruiting, and somedays I just do normal line flying and it keeps it fresh.
Why Leave?
I feel as if I have done everything that I can at Endeavor and I feel as if its time for me to go and experience something else in my career and to take the next step to further enhance my career.
Why US AIR?
I always knew that USAIR was a good company, I watched them go through a couple of bankruptcies but after the last one they had turned things around and were becoming modern and making profits. I have 4 friends that have been hired at Us Air in the last 4 years and they have all had great things to say. My wife and I have both lived in Michigan our whole lives but we both feel that there may be somethign else out there for our family and I have looked into living in the charlotte area and have heard great things. When you throw the merger on top of that its icing on the cake as the combined company will be the largest airline in the world and be an airline that in my opinoin has really great potential
Of all the legacy carriers, why US
When I take a look at the top 3 carriers right now American Delta and United I see the most potential in American long term. I think many industry analysts might see Delta as number 1 right now becuase their merger is over but I believe that American after integration will be the best. They have a strong south and latin american network. A good presence in europe, and with the 787 and 350’s on order possiblities for great expansion in asia.
What are the top three airlines you want to work for?
US air, American and the new american
What was your favorite and least favorite job
My most favorite was definetly the one i have now, and my least favorite was a job i had for 3 weeks as a telemarketer selling windows to people over the phone I have never felt such rejection in my life and the company was not doing good at all and in fact closed its doors as i started my 4th week with them
What skills other than flying do you bring here?
If you look at my resume, at doesnt stop at just being a line pilot. I have also been a check airman, and ground instructor, and a pilot recruiter. I am proud of what i do, I am a very positive person. I like to teach and help people and I have no problem going out into the public and representing the company at various events. I see no reason why I would not want to continue those things here
What experiences from your past will make you a better employee here?
I think the variety of things that I have done at Endeavor have made me a well rounded candidate. I have spent time on both sides of the operation normal line flying and training so I can draw from both experiences to make me the best first officer i can be.
What would you do if you didnt fly?
Well the first thing I would do would be to try out for the PGA. If that didnt work out, I love the outdoors so I might start up my own landscaping company. I also have a management degree not a flying degree so I have that to fall back on as well so I might get an MBA and get into business.
What would a friend say about you?
That I am a loyal person, someone that they can count on in good times and in bad times to help. They would say I am very passionate about the things that I love. They would say I am family man and that family always comes first.
What would your wife say about you?
Wow thats a good question, do you want me to call her? I think she would say that I am her best friend, I think she would say that I always put our family first and that I love our children, that I support her in the decisions she makes and most importantly I think she would say that no matter what i do right or wrong I always try to make the situation right.
What would your last 10 first officers say about you
Well I actually hope that they would pretty much all have a smililar answer. I like to be consistent in the flight deck. I always try to prepare for each flight the same way. I always try to treat my crew with respect and dignity and I always put safety first. I think that they would also say that they enjoy flying with me and that I can keep peoples spirits up no matter what
What do I like dislike about my current job
I like the fact that it has so much variety. I like the crews that I fly with I like training and teaching. and I like the fact that every day is different. To be honest, since our bankruptcy our overall company morale has been pretty low especially with our first officers. I hate to see the morale be low and I do what ever I can do to help people out and to make things better. I understand why it is the way it is, I understand that this industry will always have challenges which is why I try to be a positive person to help combat that.
Outside of flying what have you done for your company
ssp recruit check air and ground
What is the most important thing you have done for your company?
As a pilot recruiter I have traveled to job fairs and worked really hard to bring pilot into our company. The competition is fierce right now with candidates basically having a choice of what regional they want to go to and its been fun and rewarding to go out and do those type of events.
What is your best/favorite leadership skill?
I like to lead by example and I like to welcome a good CRM enviroment. I like to go by the company procedures and set the tone so that others do as well. I like to stay positive and be positive around.others. I try to solicit participation and information from the crews i fly with so that together we operate a safe flight.
Tell me a time you made a decision you wish you could change?
ITH APU And LEFT pack defereed
Tell me a time you were a leader
There was one flight i had from detroit to toronto where after we got on one of the seatbacks broke. We used to have a mx procedure where the mechanics could defer with the pax on the plane but it changed so we had to deplane everyone. After they were done we boarded everyone up again and we were almost set to go when mx said they defered it wrong and they refused to fix it with people on board. They said it would be a 45 min fix. The passerngers were really upset at this point. I decided to take manners into my own hands. I called down 2 ramp supervisors to help deplane the pax while I called our routers and explained the situation, they changed our plane. I called the fuelers to have them immedieately sent to the plane to fuel it and then the first officer and I helped unload the bags from the back and then went to the new plane got everything ready and we ended up only being 1 hour late.
TMAT a company policy you disagreed with and what did you do
mx on the ground have to call 3 people to get one job done, I suggested we call line mx ourselves and then call dispatch
The result was that it didnt change so I just kept doing the company policy.

Tell me about the most difficult decision you have had to make?
In my aviation career it was leaving a family of 5 behind on the day before thanksgiving becuase we did not have enough life vests we left them there with 25 open seats on the plane. I wanted to take them but the rules were the rules. I tried everything but had to leave so I walked with them up the jet bridge and explained the situation to them and I think they appreicated that.

Had an fo who was really upset at teh merger, would not stop talking about it after a flight during teh debrief i told him we needed to leave that talk for outside of the airplane.
TMAT when you flew with an uncooperative FO
Very rare at endeavor but there was one that didnt want to do the first flight of the day walkaround checks because of deicing fluid. I did it for him the first time and then during the flight talked about it the second time he didnt do it either so I called professional standards on him.
TMAT you flew with somone who lacked integretiy?
Same FO as listed above Deicing walkaround
How do you deal with someone who breaks the rules?
I lead by example first and do it the right way, and then I talk to them about it. If they dont respond I contact pro standards or the chief pilot about it
How do you prepare when flying into an unfamiliar airport?
I usually start off by asking my coworkers or friends if they have ever been to the airport, I may look it up online to see if there are any known problems that have happened there. This is all in advance, I will always review the pictoral charts in my jepps and the company pages for any special information that there is. I will always brief any departure or approach and make sure that it is done in steril flight deck so we both understand.
Describe your ideal 4 day trip
If I was domestic I like the early morning starts, I would like to fly a cross country flight on the first day to a west coast overnight maybe the second day do up and down the coast and the third day transition back over to the east for the last overnight with an early arrival on day 4 so I can get back home to see the family.
What do you want us to take away from this interview
I would like you to know that I am a hard worker, I am a very loyal worker. I take a lot of pride in what I do and the company I work for. I also would like you to know that if you hire me, this wont be the last time you see me, I am not the guy who does his line schedule and that it. I have really enjoyed training and recruiting at my current company and I hope to do that again in the future and maybe one day sit where you guys are and hire the next generation of US Air and American pilots .
